We've collected many nature-related activities in the Washington, DC area into a single calendar below. Click on any title to expand it into a summary of the activity. Below the calendar are links to sponsoring  organizations (and others we don't  have time to include on the calendar). Some events may have been entered quite a while ago -- it would be wise to confirm event info.
Activities aimed at kids are in blue; volunteer opportunities are in purple; walks we are leading are in red.

Other Sites to Check

Collecting this calendar takes time and there are often many organizations we don't have a chance to include. (For information on how to get your organization included on the calendar, see the very bottom of this page.) In the interest of time, we prioritize listing activities that have some sort of educational component, mostly aimed at adults, and mostly inside the beltway.
The following clubs often don't get included in the calendar at all and/or have lots of events that go outside our range -- check their sites if they interest you, because they have lots going on! Northern Virginia Hiking Club, Sierra Club Potomac Regional Outings, Center Hiking Club, Potomac Appalachian Trail Club (PATC), Capital Hiking Club, Appalachian Mountain Club, Washington Women Outdoors, Maryland Outdoor Club, and the Wanderbirds. Based on reader feedback, we've also stopped including so many kids events on the calendars. Parents, check our list of local nature centers to find one close to you -- most have lots of kid-oriented events. You may also want to check the Family listings at the Audubon Naturalist Society, and our list of Planetariums in the DC area.

How to get your activity listed on the Natural Capital Calendar

By far the easiest way for us to add events to this calendar is to upload them from a spreadsheet. Send us an Excel file at thenaturalcapital@google.com. The row for each event should include the following fields: Title, Start Date, Start Time, End Date, End Time, Location, Description, Ages (kids/adults), and Volunteer (whether it should be listed as a volunteer opportunity).
